Welcome to HotelGuide.Networks' directory of hotels and hotel reviews for Sacramento, California!

Located just 90 miles northeast of San Francisco, California's state capital enjoys year-round mild temperatures and dry summers, and an abundance of sunshine coupled with cool winter months, resulting in the best of both worlds. Sacramento is bound by the American and Sacramento Rivers, which afford opportunities for all manner of water sports and outdoor activities. Founded in the 1800s, Johann Sutter received a sizable land grant from the Mexican governor, who still administered the region, to establish a fort near the nexus of the Sacramento and American Rivers. James Marshall discovered gold a few years later just 50 miles east of Sutter's land, which began the California Gold Rush.

Sutter's fort grew fast from that point onward to the present day city of Sacramento by becoming the regional banking, cultural and residential center for all of the prospectors, and the place where their claims were registered, which led to its becoming the capital when California attained statehood. The western end of civilization terminated at Sacramento, which was the final stop of the railroads and the pony express. With a climate similar to the Mediterranean region, Sacramento is sheltered from the rough coastal weather, with distinct but mild seasons, and year-around low humidity despite its riverfront location. Sacramento may not have the reputation for high culture which San Francisco and Los Angeles boast, but the finest in ballet, theatre, opera and symphony, museums and galleries may be found in Sacramento, consistent with its history as the first town to bring significant Eastern culture to California.
